1.1 INTRODUCTION

Kinematics is the branch of mechanics in which an object or body moves without knowing its cause. In this section we will study how the motion of an object is represented by the equation and graph.

1.2  REST AND MOTION

    Fig- 1                      Fig- 2

In figure- 1, an object A is at point P with time, meaning it does not change its position with time.

In figure- 2, an object A is going to p to Q with time, meaning it changes

Its position with time.

Now

What is rest?

If an object does not change its position with time, then the object is in rest.

In figure- 1 , object A is in rest.

What is motion?

If an object changes its position with time, then the object is in motion.

In figure- 2 object A is in motion.

#### Focus ####

If an object is in motion then , it achieved the five parameters of motion.

  1.3 PARAMETERS OF KINEMATICS

  1. Distance

  2. Displacement

  3. Speed

  4. Velocity

  5. Acceleration

DISTANCE

                         Fig- 3

In figure- 3, object A goes to P to Q with roads 1 , 2 , 3 and 4th.

Here length of 1th , 2nd , 3th and 4th are called distance

What is distance ?

distance is the actual path length travelled by the object during its motion.
